Giraffes are the tallest land mammals on Earth, with males reaching heights of up to 18 feet.

In this guide, you’ll discover how to draw a giraffe in seven different styles, so you can pick the one that suits you best.

1. Basic Giraffe Sketch

Step 1: Begin by drawing a large oval near the top of your paper for the head. Remember, giraffe heads are relatively small, so leave plenty of space around it.

Step 2: Draw two long, slightly curved lines extending down from the head to form the neck. Attach a larger oval at the bottom for the body.

Step 3: Sketch two long, gently curved lines from the body for the front legs. Repeat on the other side to create the hind legs.

Step 4: Draw curved shapes on either side of the head for the ears. Add two small, rounded horns above each ear.

Step 5: From the back of the body, extend a curved line for the tail and add a tuft at the end.

Step 6: Draw two circles for the eyes, adding small dots for the pupils. Below the eyes, add two small ovals for the nostrils. Draw oval-shaped spots along the top side of the tail.

Step 7: Color your giraffe using warm tones like tan, brown, orange, black, and white.

2. Adorable Giraffe Drawing

Step 1: Start with a small oval for the head.

Step 2: Draw a long, curved line from the head downwards for the neck. At the bottom, sketch a wide, gently curved shape for the body.

Step 3: Draw thin cylinder shapes for the front legs and slightly thicker cylinders for the hind legs.

Step 4: On top of the head, add two small, rounded horns.

Step 5: Extend a thin, curved line from the back of the body for the tail.

Step 6: Draw two large, round eyes on the head. Below, add a small rounded nose with a line for the mouth.

Step 7: Decorate the giraffe’s body with irregular patches or spots.

Step 8: Color the giraffe with shades of brown, orange, or yellow, or choose your own palette.

3. Cartoon Giraffe

Step 1: Draw a circle for the head, and add two small circles for the eyes.

Step 2: Sketch an oval in front of the head for the muzzle, with two nostrils.

Step 3: Draw two straight lines downward from the head for the neck. Add curved lines for the ears.

Step 4: Sketch an oval for the body.

Step 5: From the body, draw four straight lines for the legs. Add small ovals at the ends for feet.

Step 6: Draw a small tail behind the body, finishing with a tassel. Add curved lines across the body for the giraffe’s spots.

Step 7: Color the giraffe in your preferred style or follow the example image.

4. Simple Giraffe Drawing

Step 1: Start with a large oval for the head, adjusting the size to your preference.

Step 2: Draw two rounded horns and outline the ears inside and out.

Step 3: Add two ovals for the muzzle and include two nostrils. Add small dots for the eyes.

Step 4: Use smooth, flowing lines from the head down for the neck, torso, and legs.

Step 5: Sketch the mane along the giraffe’s neck using a long, curved line.

Step 6: Add spots of various sizes across the body.

Step 7: Finish by adding color and practicing until you achieve the result you like.

Masterpieces of the Natural World: 10 Iconic Landscape Paintings

Masterpieces of the Natural World: 10 Iconic Landscape Paintings

Landscape painting was once a genre that struggled for the same prestige as historical or religious art. It wasn't until the 17th century that it gained formal recognition as a distinct category, standing alongside portraiture and still life. By the 19th century, particularly with the rise of the Barbizon School in 1830, the practice of painting outdoors—en plein air—became more accessible. Nature, with its lush forests and rugged coastlines, became a primary source of inspiration. The following selection highlights ten pivotal landscape works that have shaped the history of art.
